A security guard (also known as Security Officer) is a person whose job is to protect property, assets, or people. Security guards are mostly privately and officially employed personnel. Sometimes, security guards are uniformed, and are paid to protect property by keeping a high visibility presence to prevent illegal and wrong actions, taking action and reporting any incidents to their client and emergency services by observing for signs of crime, fire or disorder.

Security guards offer different types of services, including residential security, bodyguards, special event security, fire watch security, stationary security guards, and personal security. They usually work at public stations, such as schools, hospitals, cinemas, courts, colleges, banks, shopping malls, and gardens.

Job Description for Security Guard:

Job description for the security guard varies according to the instructions and requirements of employing heads. However, a general job description for a Security Guard may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Patrols industrial and commercial premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensures security of doors, windows, and gates; Protects buildings and grounds, including all contents, occupants, customers, and visitors, by enforcing rules and regulations related to security at the location, and directs both foot and vehicular traffic in and around the location. Supervises and enforces all systems designed to monitor or identify personnel and vehicles entering the location. Conducts inspections of packages and vehicles as required; Controls the movement of people, products, and vehicles into, out of, and within the location. Records information relating to the security of people, products, and vehicles, and reports this to the security supervisor or the client’s representative; Conducts and reviews safety inspections of all areas of the location disruptions to the business; Mitigates risks that could affect the day-to-day operations of a facility.
