A Construction Equipment Operator is a person who works for construction companies and uses machinery to move construction materials, soil, and other heavy materials at construction sites, warehouses, power plants and mines. Their basic duty is to clear and grade land in order to prepare it for construction of buildings, roads, bridges, airport runways, dams, and other structures.

Controls asphalt spreaders, steamrollers, tamping equipment, bucket trucks, cranes, pile drivers, and other equipment. Operates heavy equipment on a training basis, example, grader, track loader; Sets up and operates, on a regular basis, specialized construction equipment, typified by such units as cranes equipped with dragline, clam shell, pile driver; heavy land clearing bulldozers equipped with tree cutter and timber rake or rock rack. Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs, reports complex mechanical problems for shop repairs; Trains less skilled employees in operation and care of equipment; Performs required manual labor in construction and maintenance projects; checks and services assigned equipment.
